Coronatus - Porta Obscura (9/10) metal review
Epicmetal.net is the beginning of a journey to me, through this journey in the roads of metal I have discovered bands and styles of music which were unknown to me.. some of the styles which really I found interesting and very true metal are the folk and gothic and Viking metal. below you will find the review of the new album of metal gothic symphonic  metallers Coronatus called Porta Obscura   Coronatus are a German band which plays Gothic Metal.. their album porta obscurra was recorded in helcinki – finland and the album is due to be released on the 28th of Nov.. this is the second full release album of the band   With an intro which I really liked ,  with the sounds of a storm, marching drums, classical music background and soprano vocals.. I had no doubt that at least I will find this album very interesting This band  achieves to differentiate from the rest by having two lead female vocalists one for soprano vocals (Carmen r Schafer) ,  and the other one  (da Fletcher) for the rest.  very creative and progressive at the same time.   Now even though the band states that is style is gothic/symphonic I will day is more symphonic and power metal and less gothic. The riffing is excellent The vocals are in three languages,  English, Latin and some in the bands native language (German).  Really liked the rhythm guitars and keyboards (lead guitar is almost absent) . Really this band riffs with the piano and keyboard match perfectly with the blend of the two vocal styles – especially the symphonic!!! Wish they had more lead guitar and guitar solos!!   A true symphonic metal album.. the moments where the Soprano vocals are supplemented and backed by the clean vocals are excellent. the same counts for the opposite where the clean vocals are backed by the soprano vocals.   13 tracks (includes 2 bones tracks) , 55 minutes of  pure Symphonic Metal  a combination of heavy metal with soprano vocals. Is a point not only which I found very good but progressive for a band. Well done.   Listen to the 3rd song Fallen , hymn, symphonic and more importantly heavy metal!!! Liked the solo in the  beauty In black. The  cast my spell intro is unforgettable and gives you an idea of what this band is made for,  s  melodic song with a great intro.  In  your hands  is a ballad in which  you understand the quality of the vocalists.  Track 10)  der vierte reiter,  has a touch of folk metal and is interesting.   Overall I liked this band, for me,  they  are not gothic but pure symphonic metal band, very creative and progressive with two vocalists, one for soprano vocals and the other one for clean vocals.  Although, I would prefer more English vocals and more lead guitar solos.  However who cares, great riffing and keyboards, excellent vocals (both vocalists) , great compositions, melodic, symphonic and more importantly epical!!!   Do your selves a favour and check this band, they deserve it. (9/10)
