7 thorns band description
7 thorns is another very interesting european power metal band.  the band deserves a place in epicmetal.net due to the quality of the heavy metal they produce but also from the passion and the power metal mfeeling the band manages to spread. bewlow is their biography according to their website 7thorns.dk Part 1 - The Beginning 7thorns started back in 1998 as a side project for drummer Lars and guitarist Dr. No. The idea was to start a band playing music in the vein of Helloween, Gamma Ray, Accept, U.D.O. etc. The name 7thorns was a compromise between Lars and Dr. No, and it was originally a temporary name spelled "Seven Thorns". A guitarist joined, but the search for other members failed at the time, and thus the project was dropped after 4 months when Lars got the chance to play in another band. Then nothing happened until September 2002 when Lars left his other band due to artistic differences. Lars then got the grit to reform 7thorns and immediately started looking for new members. In November 2002, Munk answered to one of the internet ads and later met Lars at a pub in Copenhagen, engaging in their mutual interest - drinking damn good beer! Another guitarist, bass player and a lead singer joined the band, but after a while Lars and Munk decided to continue the adventures on their own… Part 2 - New People After only one month 7thorns got lucky and received a response from a keyboard player - a breed not widely available in the metal genre in Denmark. Pil was no more 17 years old when she joined 7thorns, but her playing ability suggested at least twice that age. Lars, Munk and Pil started to write a plethora of new material to fulfil their musical dreams. Then one day Mik, a completely green lead singer, turned up for audition. He had the potential to deliver what 7thorns needed, but the other band members demanded that he developed his technique in parallel with the overall progression of the band. Unfortunately, the keyboard player Pil found out that she didn't really dig the music and therefore left the band, leaving 7thorns in a position even worse than before. Part 3 - Divine Intervention Lars and Munk were now determined to find the right people for the right place if 7thorns should ever become reality. During that time 7thorns auditioned different new members for bass and guitar, but unfortunately the search didn't yield any results, although the band had auditions by a jazz guitarist and a student of ancient Greek history! After months of waiting patiently, divine intervention suddenly occurred when Lars met bass player Tommy at a metal concert. Tommy showed an interested in 7thorns, and during the next rehearsal he was playing with band without anyone ever telling him what to play - it's that simple! With the band almost complete Lars and Munk contacted guitar player Morten and after an audition he is willing to try his best in the band. The result was an almost fully functional 7thorns during the summer of 2004, but as we all know it is never that easy... Part 4 - Blast from the Fast The long story short is that Morten was first attacked, and then moved to New York for a time - but such things happen! But 7thorns kept on going, and if Tommy was divine intervention it was definitely a trick of the devil that made Pete contact Lars with the purpose of joining the band. Pete's background in Illnath quickly made him introduce the "click" to 7thorns, and this was one of the main reasons for the sudden advancement of the band. But 7thorns were still short of a keyboard player, and Pete contacted Tyr, also of Illnath, and asked him to join! "And Behold - the world has given birth to a truly divine band". Neither Lars nor Munk had any doubts - the lineup was complete with people truly dedicated to the band and the music. A few beers were spilled on that account… Part 5 - A New Era At that time, a new level of creativity filled the rehearsals, and 7thorns completed 2 songs for the upcoming demo. However, during vocal recording it was clear that Mik wasn't quite on par with the rest of the band, and it was decided to do something else with the vocals. Thanks to a great deal of luck and a clever trap by Lars, 7thorns ensnared a new singer, Thomas Hübertz who is a professional musical singer and teacher. Thomas added a whole new dimension to the music, and the demo was well received by the press all over the world. As it is often the case, subtle harmonic distortions can have a heavy impact on the relationship between band members. This time creative differences between the bass player Jesper Brogaard and the rest of the band forced 7thorns once again to look for one to join the lineup. After some time Kenneth auditioned, and we were all blown away by his superb technique. When he also fit in the band on a personal level far better than any of our previous bass players, it wasn't really a tough decision. Part 6 - The making of Glow Of Dawn In the spring of 2006 7thorns made pre-recordings for their forth coming album, Glow Of Dawn at their own rehearsal facilities at a farm outside Copenhagen. At that time the title of the album had not yet been decided. New songs were being written and studio time was booked at Stonelab Studio and thereby with Steen Mogensen (bass player of Cornerstone, former Royal Hunt). The recording and mixing of Glow Of Dawn lasted around 1 month and a half during the spring and summer of 2006. Together with 7thorns the “Grand old man” of Danish rock music, Peter Brander took care of the mixing and the final production of the album at his studio, Media Sound Studio, Copenhagen. The final mix was passed on to Andy Horn, Horn Music Production, Germany with plenty of experience in metal production, and when his master-CD returned to us we could not have been more happy with the result!
